winter weather style: here’s some inspiration to Beat winter wardrobe doldrums

With Spring weeks away, I’m beginning to fall into winter styling boredom. On the one hand, the minimalistic side of me that strives to feel put together with minimal effort, embraces the simple style formula the winter season calls for – sweater and slacks or sweater and denim. But day after day, admittedly this gets boring and unmotivating. And when that happens, I have to fight the urge to purchase something new. Thankfully, Pinterest is here to save me from myself. Here’s some style inspo from some of my favorite mature style mavens to once again help me find my fashion way out of winter wardrobe boredom. Also, and more importantly, the inspo below leans into classic pieces that I most likely own already helping me find new ways to make my usual staples feel fresh. And because I’m committed to a no/low buy year, I’m doubling down and using a couple of images from previous posts. Afterall, the goal is to wear (and love) what I own, so repeating images seems appropriate. Happy styling!

Winter Outfit Inspo #1: Sweater+ Faux Leather Trouser + Ankle boots

My Aritzia vegan leather pants are a stable in my wardrobe. Faux leather (or genuine if that’s how you roll!) can give a basic sweater and trouser outfit some edge and therefore feels like a fresh take on a classic outfit formula. If you don’t own faux leather pants, then pleated or dress trousers when paired with lug heel boot can give an edgy and fresh vibe too!

Winter Outfit Inspo #2: Monochromatic

Monochromatic outfits are chic yet effortless, my fashion happy place. If you have classic wardrobe pieces, chances are you have a coat or jacket in a shade like black, navy, camel or grey. You also likely have a sweater in those colors, so pairing a sweater and coat in the same shade is the easiest way to look chic. Or match your sweater and trousers/skirt in the same shade and add a coat in a contrasting color. And while I tend to avoid wearing all black, these style mavens below seem to have managed to make all black look fresh and chic simply by adding an accessory or statement piece. In this case, a statement skirt with bold hardware or a colorful scarf around the neck. I don’t own a statement skirt, but I do have belt with bold hardware that I might add with a long midi-skirt and knee high boots.

Winter Outfit Inspo #3: Winter Whites

If an all black outfit doesn’t exactly excite you, no worries. Try adding winter whites, creams or ivory to your outfit formulas. I’ve already made a great case for wearing white during colder seasons in a previous post (be sure to check that out). Winter white in colder season is a chic way to cure winter styling boredom, just keep your particular locale and lifestyle in mind for the sake of practicality. Snow and slush, public commuting in harsh conditions, etc. may not bode well with white bottoms. Otherwise take a cue from the inspo below.

Feel free to share your tips for beating winter styling boredom. Stay warm!
