Trans-Seasonal jacket for fall

Happy Fall! Sorry for the delay since the last post, but the past few weeks have been hectic. I’m back and just in time for my favorite season of the year! And what better way to get in the autumnal mood than to have a look at the summer-to-fall wardrobe staple, the lightweight jacket, an essential to navigating those in-between warm and cold days. Here are some styling ideas for three jackets/lightweight outerwear that you likely own already or may want to consider adding to your wardrobe.

Suede jacket

Suede has been trending for the past several seasons and doesn’t seem to be going away anytime soon. In fact, a suede jacket is a classic piece that will remain a hard working wardrobe staple, especially one in a neutral color. I purchased a suede jacket second hand which I shared in a spring transitional styling post. It’s a piece that I wore quite often during the winter to spring transition and one that I plan to wear in the coming days as the weather turns cool again. Adding a suede jacket to tailored trousers, a skirt, a pair of jeans or even a dress, not only provides added warmth but a cool element to your outfit. If suede is not your thing, or not practical, a lightweight leather jacket works too.

Denim Jackets

Denim jackets have long been a wardrobe essential that you likely already own. Lightweight and effortless, the denim jacket is a perfect outer layer for those mild but chilly early fall days. Collarless styles offer a fresh take on a classic that also look great worn alone as a top.

Trench Coat

The styling power of a trench coat is not to be slept on. A good trench is not only practical but can make any ordinary outfit look chic and polished. And in 2025, there are so many great options from single to double-breasted styles as well as interesting color offerings that go beyond stone or beige. I’m loving the shorter trenches for cooler aesthetic.

If you’re in the market for a new lightweight outerwear piece, be sure to check out second-hand resellers first. I found my suede jacket at a bargain on Thredup (thredup.com). Vestiare (Vestiare.com) and The RealReal (therealreal.com) had a great selection of lighter outerwear when I last checked. For new items, I’m a big fan of Quince for great quality pieces at affordable prices (not sponsored). There are even some decent options at H&M and Zara but be sure to check fabric content for longevity. Zara and H&M both had some great cotton denim jackets.
