Skip Black Friday and Shop Small Business Saturday! gift ideas

If you’ve visited this blog in the past, you may recall that this is a low-buy year for me and that I’ve been deliberate and thoughtful about the few purchases I’ve made. So, it should come as no surprise that I plan to skip Black Friday in 2025 opting instead to support local shops and small businesses on November 29th. It’s a great way to support your community and local economy while getting a jump start on some holiday shopping. Here’s some gift ideas for shopping local:

Plants

If you’re lucky enough to have a plant shop or local nursery, a plant is a great gift idea.

Coffee and Food Gifts

More than likely there’s a coffee shop or local roaster in your area. Local roasters produce some of the best coffees and will impress the coffee drinkers in your life. Combine a gift card from the shop with a bag of coffee beans or for the foodie, check out your local specialty markets.

Wine and Spirits

Wine and spirits can be pricey, but if you’re looking for an extra special gift check out a bottle from your local wine or spirit shop. The cool thing about that is most wine/spirit shops have tasting rooms so might as well sample, just to be sure you make the right choice (wink). It is Saturday after all!

Candles

Not necessarily original, but a safe bet and local shops are more apt to have unique handmade scents. Add a cool matchbox for a special gift set.
