Hello spring! spring planting to reduce grocery bills

Happy Spring! Depending on where you live, March is great time to prepare for planting season. This past weekend, we bought a few new veggie plants to add to our garden of tomatoes, basil, butter lettuce, oregano and more. New to the garden is broccoli, cilantro, cucumbers squash and more lettuce all for under $35. These veggies are all staples in my kitchen that I would otherwise purchase on a weekly basis. So, I’m likely to recoup that $35 in two grocery trips. It’s not just about saving money, but the vegetables from our garden are more flavorful than store-bought and are grown without pesticides.

Growing your own vegetables may not result in huge savings, especially when you consider the upfront costs and ongoing maintenance. But listen, it’s hard out here in these inflationary streets, so even saving a few dollars off my grocery bill is welcomed.

Stay tuned for more posts with photos of our yields and refreshing salads made with ingredients from the garden.
